                   Prevent Blindness is awarded an $2,700 from the Jean E. Nicholas Fund for Vision Screening Equipment

Dayton, OH (Oct. 7, 2016)– Prevent Blindness, Ohio Affiliate (PBO) received a $2,700 Greenlight grant from the Jean E. Nicholas Fund at the Dayton Foundation to purchase Prevent Blindness Vision Screening Equipment for its Miami Valley Ohio Chapter.

Prevent Blindness is the state’s leading volunteer nonprofit public health organization dedicated to preventing blindness and preserving sight. It provides direct services to more than 800,000 Ohioans and educates consumers about what they can do to protect and preserve their sight.

The Vision Screening Equipment allows Prevent Blindness certified screeners to  serve more than 5,000 Miami Valley residents annually and reduce the incidence of unnecessary vision loss. There are currently 1.2 million Ohioans living with vision problems, as the aging population continues to grow by the year 2030 there will be more than 2.5 million Ohioans affected with vision-robbing conditions unless something is done to increase early detection and treatment.

Nicholas Fund at the Dayton Foundation for their partnership in helping us to purchase visioning screening equipment that will help us detect potential vision problems early on when their treatment is most successful ,” said Sherry Williams, President and CEO of the Ohio Affiliate of Prevent Blindness.
