“I feel blessed to be part of PBW’s vision screening program for young children, and I look forward to volunteering. I’ve witnessed over several years PBW’s commitment to help children achieve and maintain healthy vision, which fosters learning and reading—it just doesn’t get better than that!” -PBW Volunteer

Children's Vision Screener

Children Vision Screeners will conduct vision screenings at preschools or childcare centers, schools, and in community settings. Upon completing the three-year Certified Children’s Vision Screening Training, participants will be matched with a volunteer group located closest to your home. You will assist in providing free, certified vision screenings to children in your community. Children’s Vision Screeners impact the lives of children with each screening they complete, “It is not lost on us that a Prevent Blindness Wisconsin volunteer changed our daughter’s life. Your vision screening started a ball rolling that will improve Addisyn’s vision for the rest of her life. It is hard for us to find the right words to thank you for that. What [Prevent Blindness Wisconsin volunteers] do is amazing and we hope you know, much appreciated.” – Michelle Reed, Addisyn’s mother (Addisyn was the Children’s Vision Preschool Ambassador in 2017).

Corporate Volunteer

The Corporate Screening Sponsorship Program gives local corporations and their employees the opportunity to serve their communities through vision screening, ensuring local children have the healthy vision they need for success! The program supports free vision screenings at local schools that cannot manage a screening alone, while giving employee volunteers an engaging

and meaningful day of hands-on service. Because of these partnerships, hundreds of children who would have been left out and left behind are now on the path to healthy vision!

“I loved working with Prevent Blindness Wisconsin during the screening. I would definitely sign up to help with something like this again next year. The time flew by and I had a blast!”

“My favorite part of the vision screening was interacting with the young children—helping them feel comfortable and knowing that without us, they may not receive a vision screening.”

Volunteering FAQ

Why Should I Volunteer with Prevent Blindness Wisconsin?

Prevent Blindness has the only national program that trains and certifies individuals around the country to conduct vision screenings for children and adults.

Only an eye doctor can diagnose and treat a vision problem, but vision screenings act as a public health initiative to identify children and adults who need a dilated eye exam. Prevent Blindness Wisconsin’s vision screenings are an accurate, cost-effective way to find vision problems and refer people with signs of problems to eye doctors for professional care.

Volunteering is fun! Our wonderful team of volunteers around the state are dedicated to helping those in their community see life to the fullest. You can choose how often you would like to volunteer based on your schedule.
