January is National Glaucoma Awareness month. Glaucoma is an eye disease that damages the optic nerve. Often times, there are no symptoms of glaucoma until permanent vision loss occurs, which is why it is called the sneak thief of sight. 

Glaucoma can affect anyone. Without early treatment it can steal away your sight. Because glaucoma often shows no symptoms until vision is permanently lost, knowing if you are at risk is the first step in the fight against the sneak thief of sight. Take the glaucoma risk assessment here.

Glaucoma Education and Outreach 

Earlier this month we gave the second part of our Diabetes and Your Eyes public education talk at Ebenezer Church of God in Christ. The talk was held in their diabetic food pantry and covered glaucoma and cataracts. Diabetes and Your Eyes is a two-part talk that discusses the effect diabetes can have on your vision health, what the diabetic eye diseases are, and ways to prevent vision loss with diabetes.
