PREVENT BLINDNESS RECOGNIZES DAYTON OFFICE; RECEIVES SURPRISE GRANT

Dayton, Ohio (Oct. 13, 2016) – In recognition of its growing impact throughout Montgomery County, Prevent Blindness has changed the name of its Dayton Office to the Miami Valley Ohio Chapter, Prevent Blindness.

The Ohio affiliate of Prevent Blindness, based in Columbus, is the state’s leading volunteer non-profit public health organization dedicated to preventing blindness and preserving sight. The organization serves all 88 counties, providing direct services to more than 800,000 Ohioans annually and educating millions of consumers about what they can do to protect and preserve their precious gift of sight. Other chapters are located in Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus and Toledo.

The name of the Dayton Area Leadership Committee was also changed to the Miami Valley Ohio Chapter Executive Council. The 17-member Executive Council consists of private citizens from the business, healthcare and not-profit sectors.

“We are delighted to have our efforts in Dayton validated by this name change,” said Executive Council chair Allyn Conway. “It underscores our commitment to serving Montgomery County and is a platform for future expansion throughout the Miami Valley.”

The Miami Valley Ohio Chapter, Prevent Blindness, was recently the recipient of a $10,000 “surprise grant” from the CareSource Foundation. In celebration of it 10 year anniversary, the CareSource Foundation selected 10 non-profits in for an unplanned grant.

“We are so appreciative of the support that CareSource and many other local funders have given to our organization over the past 15 years,” Conway said.  The Dayton Office of Prevent Blindness was founded in 2001.
