Children’s Vision Program

Prevent Blindness Wisconsin works in cooperation with public health nurses, school nurses, healthcare staff, students, volunteers, childcare providers, Wisconsin Lion/Lioness, and Head Start personnel to provide free vision screenings across the state. Prevent Blindness Wisconsin provides vision screening training and certification, consultation, vision screening materials, and educational brochures to our screening partners.

Prevent Blindness Wisconsin provides free adult vision screenings, public health information, and educational information for community partners. We also can provide financial assistance information for adults who need an eye exam and/or glasses.

Our largest partnership within our Children’s Vision Screening program, schools and public health departments are dedicated to helping us achieve our sight-saving mission! We partner with over 400 school districts and public health departments across the state of Wisconsin.

Head Start

In 2008, Prevent Blindness and the Office of Head Start signed a memorandum of understanding to provide vision screenings in accordance to protocol set by the National Center for Children’s Vision and Eye Health at Prevent Blindness.  Since then, we have expanded our partnership to do even more!!

To help ensure children are seeing clearly, Prevent Blindness Wisconsin offers Certified Children’s Vision Screener Trainings to pediatric office staff throughout Wisconsin.

Community Volunteering

Prevent Blindness Wisconsin volunteer vision screeners provide free vision screenings to children across the state. Our 15 volunteer groups are located in the greater Milwaukee area, Madison, and the Fox Valley. Volunteers vision screen primarily at local preschools and child care centers, although some also screen at elementary schools. All volunteers must attend a two hour vision screener training prior to volunteering.

Corporate Volunteering

Prevent Blindness Wisconsin is proud to partner with a variety of corporate partners to provide vision screenings at schools that would otherwise go without. Companies can sponsor a vision screening in their community and provide employees with the chance to perform that vision screening. This is a great opportunity for your staff to take a break from work, bond, and serve the community!

Prevent Blindness Wisconsin provides Certified Children’s Vision Screener Trainings to high school and university students to help facilitate vision screenings at elementary schools within their district or community. It’s a great way for students to get hands-on public health experience.

Star Pupils Racine

The Star Pupils Racine Vision Screening Program, which is generously funded by the Racine Community Foundation, provides vision screenings and vision health education to children ages 3 to 5 who attend schools and preschools within Racine County.

Star Pupils Catholic

The Star Pupils Catholic Vision Screening Program provides free vision screenings to Catholic Elementary schools within the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. These screenings are provided by community volunteers.
