Urgent Volunteer Need

Help Us Close the Gap: Become a Children’s Vision Screening Volunteer

Right now, we have more schools and childcare centers asking for vision screenings than we have volunteers to reach them. This means thousands of Wisconsin children are at risk of going without a critical vision screening—simply because there are not enough helping hands.

Wisconsin is one of only nine states that does not require vision screenings for students, so if we can’t provide them, many children will go without. Private choice schools and childcare centers often lack the staff and resources to conduct vision screenings on their own. Without these vision screenings, vision problems can go unnoticed, making it harder for children to learn, grow, and thrive.

Just a couple of hours of your time can make a life-changing difference. By volunteering as a Certified Children’s Vision Screener, you will help identify vision conditions early—giving every child the chance to see clearly and succeed in school.

Watch what a vision screening entails and learn about impact it makes on both the volunteer and the students.

Who Makes a Great Volunteer?

You do not need a medical background—just a caring heart and a little time. Our best vision screening volunteers are:

  • Friendly and patient – You will work with children and school staff.
  • Detail-oriented – Vision screenings are simple but require attention to accuracy.
  • Comfortable with basic training – We provide all the training you need to succeed.
  • Available on weekday mornings – Our vision screenings happen during school hours and take 1–3 hours.
  • Passionate about helping kids – Because every child deserves the chance to learn and thrive with clear vision.

If that sounds like you, you are exactly who we need!

Can’t Volunteer Regularly? Bring Your Team!

If regular weekday mornings do not fit your schedule—or if you would like to make a bigger impact in a single day—consider having your office or organization volunteer for a morning. Together, your team can help us vision screen an entire school, reaching hundreds of children in just a few hours.

Children are counting on us. We are counting on you.
