Parents are Urged to Make Children’s Eyes Ready for Back-to-School!

Is your child at risk for a vision problem? Prevent Blindness Wisconsin encourages parents to make sure their children’s eyes are healthy before they head back to school this fall.

Having a vision screening or a complete eye exam from an eye care professional will help detect any vision issues that could hinder a child’s ability to learn, play, and succeed.

  • 80 percent of learning happens visually for most children
  • 1 in 20 preschool aged children have a vision problem
  • 1 in 4 school aged children have a vision problem
  • 2/3 of children don’t receive an eye exam before they begin school.

Vision problems often go undiagnosed and uncorrected, and these undetected vision disorders in children can lead to developmental delay and permanent vision loss.
